The Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department has been working hard and monitoring, as well as planning, for COVID-19/Coronavirus and the safety of the UCLA community. We understand that we live in very uncertain times and, with news about the virus changing rapidly, it is hard to digest everything we are reading and hearing from all of the different news outlets. Please know the department is committed to working in everyone’s best interest—students, faculty, staff, and community at large.

With this, our Fall Seminar Series will be held virtually. We will continue to monitor the situation and update here in regards to the Winter and Spring quarter seminars.

We appreciate your understanding at this time

Community Science Manager and Wildlife Biologist at Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County

" Exploring the Secret Lives of L.A.'s Urban Mammals: A Community Effort "

Urban mammals are an elusive taxonomic group to study. Further, traditional study methods are not sufficient to comprehensively examine their distribution due to the amount of private property that exist in urban areas. I will be discussing my career studying urban mammals using technology such as camera traps, bat acoustic detectors, and apps in combination with community science to overcome some of these barriers. Technology and community science has not only allowed me with unprecedented access but it has also made my research more engaging and accessible.
