" Effects of Inbreeding and Introgression on Iconic Traits and Resilience of McCloud River Redband Trout "
Emily Kerns is interested in applying plasticity theory to investigate the phenotypic effects of inbreeding and introgression. As mass mortality events become more frequent under climate change, few studies have examined their evolutionary impacts. For Emily’s proposed La Kretz Center Fellowship project, she would build off the California Department of Fish & Wildlife’s work on McCloud River Redband Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss stonei) by studying how genetic factors shape survival and resilience, informing conservation of native and threatened trout statewide. Emily’s proposed project mentors are Greg Grether and Bryan Barney
