Logistics of the Ceremony
The Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Commencement Celebration starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Wilson Plaza. You should arrive at Wilson Plaza no later than 8:00 a.m. and dressed in your cap and gown. DO NOT FORGET TO BRING YOUR REPLY CARD (NAME CARD) WITH YOU!! When you arrive, you should proceed to the area between Kaufman Hall and the Fowler Museum.
When facing Wilson Plaza (located at the bottom of Janss Steps), turn directly to the right and you will see the area where students will be lining up. Remember to bring your name card with you!! This is extremely important. If this card is not filled out, or you do not have yours, we will not know what name to call when you will be crossing the stage, nor will you be able to order any pictures from the ceremony.
Since there will be no rehearsal, be sure to arrive ON TIME (no later than 8:00 a.m.) in order to receive further instructions about seating and about walking across the stage. There will be no particular order of students for the graduation line-up aside from being grouped by major and minor (Biology, EBE, Marine Biology, Conservation Biology) so you will be able to sit with your friends within your major/minor.
The Commencement Celebration will consist of the singing of the National Anthem, a speech from the keynote speaker, the student speaker and the reading of the names as students walk across the stage. It is expected to last for approximately one hour and thirty minutes. This is a formal occasion and a very important event so we want to minimize any distractions. If friends or family wish to take pictures or videos, they can do so from their seats, but they may NOT move into the aisles or to the front of the seating area at any time. Moreover, the focus of the Commencement Celebration is on the graduates. If your friends or family are bringing infants or small children, please advise them to sit near an aisle so that they can leave if necessary.
Ordering Commencement Tickets
All baccalaureate candidates are expected to place their ticket orders and to submit RSVPs for all Commencement events, including the College Commencement ceremonies and the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Commencement Celebration. Notifications via My.UCLA.edu and advertisements in the Daily Bruin will inform and remind students of these deadlines. Please visit this link for more information: http://www.commencement.ucla.edu/tickets.cfm
As a participant in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Commencement Celebration you do not need a ticket for yourself. However, all of your invited guests must have a ticket to attend. Guest tickets may be ordered online through My.UCLA.edu for the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Commencement Celebration on the stated deadlines (see link above). During this period, students may RSVP and order up to ten (10) guest tickets. The first four (4) tickets are free. Your BAR account will be assessed a $12.00 fee per ticket for the additional six (6) tickets. You may modify or cancel your guest ticket orders via My.UCLA.edu until 2014 Commencement Week. Fees will be assessed to your BAR account based on your final ticket order as of the published date. Your BAR account will be charged whether or not the tickets were used or picked up.
NOTE: Revenue generated from the sale of tickets is used to pay for the annual Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Commencement Celebration.
Failure to pick up your tickets does NOT constitute a cancellation of your order, and you will still be charged for your commencement tickets.
Tickets ordered via My.UCLA.edu should be picked up at the Central Ticket Office (CTO). You must present a Photo ID to pick up your tickets. Tickets that are not picked by the published deadline may be invalidated and released to other students.
The Commencement Office will NOT be taking any ticket orders. All ticket orders must be placed online via My.UCLA.edu.
IF YOU MISS THE INITIAL RSVP AND TICKET ORDERING DEADLINE:
After the deadline for the first RSVP and ticket ordering period, students requesting tickets for the 2014 EEB Commencement Celebration CANNOT order tickets via My.UCLA.edu. Students who miss this deadline must send their request via e-mail no later than FRIDAY, MAY 30, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. to email@example.com with the Subject heading of 2014 EEB Commencement – RSVP and tickets with the following information:

Diplomas will be available approximately four (4) months after the degree award date. The Registrar's Office will send you information about obtaining your diploma in person (no fee) or by mail (with fee) approximately seven (7) weeks after the end of your final quarter.

If you are NOT declared in one of the above programs and RSVP for the EEB Commencement Celebration, your ticket order and RSVP will be voided. The departmental commencement celebration is meant for students who are part of the department and should not be chosen because it is convenient, or because a group of friends want to "walk" in the same ceremony.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
For general questions, please visit the FAQ section on the Commencement webpage (http://www.commencement.ucla.edu/faq.cfm)
ECOLOGY AND EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY COMMENCEMENT CELEBRATION
What's the difference between "graduating" and "walking" at commencement?
Students can graduate (that is, have completed all requirements for their degree and have stopped taking classes) during any quarter of the year. Then, a few months after the end of the Degree Expected Term (DET) that they have declared through URSA, they will be issued a diploma from UCLA. Commencement ceremonies, however, occur only once per year (Spring Quarter). You are invited to participate in these ceremonies even if your degree expected quarter is Summer, 2014.
This is the time for you to be publicly recognized by the University and your friends and family for your scholastic achievements. Participating in any Commencement activities does NOT guarantee that you will actually earn a degree. You should consult a UCLA College and/or departmental counselor for detailed information on satisfying degree requirements.
What will I do after arriving at Wilson Plaza?
When you first arrive at Wilson Plaza, you will need to check in at the Registration Table, which will be located in the area located between Kaufman Hall and the Fowler Museum. Here you will be able to modify your reply (name) card, which you will need to have fully completed if you have not already done so prior to the day of Commencement. This is a two-sided card containing the phonetic spelling of your name as well as photography information. After you made sure to complete this card, you will proceed to the area indicated to line up with the other graduates (students will be grouped by major/minor).
At that time, your family members and friends should find seats for themselves. All guests must have a ticket in order to view the ceremony. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO BOTTLES, BEACH BALLS, HELIUM BALLOONS, SILLY STRING, ETC., WILL BE ALLOWED.
What will happen during the celebration?
You will process to the seating area to "Pomp and Circumstance" and be seated in chairs at the front. After a few brief introductory comments, you will be directed to walk across the stage and give your reply card (name card) to the announcer to have your name read. You will then walk across the stage, receive a congratulatory certificate from Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and have your picture taken.
Can pictures be taken at the Commencement Celebration?
Family members and guests will NOT be allowed in the front seating area at any point during the Commencement Celebration, but they will be able to take photos from their seats. Please ask your family and guests to consider those seated around them, and NOT stand or block the view of others in any way! You will be able to have pictures taken after the ceremony.
Should I wear my cap and gown to the Commencement Celebration?
Yes! Please make sure to wear your cap and gown to the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Commencement Celebration. Regalia, caps, gowns, announcements, diploma frames and graduation gifts can all be purchased on-line. Please visit the UCLA Store - Graduation Etc. for price lists, information, and ordering. Announcements will be ready for pick-up two weeks from the date of purchase at Graduation Etc. All other products, including caps and gowns, will be available for pick-up beginning in May 2014 in the textbook area of A-Level Ackerman Union. Senior portrait appointments are still available at the Campus Photo Studio (310) 206-8433. Don't forget to order wallet-sized portraits to include in your announcements. Order and pick-up early to avoid any delays or long lines.
Fourageres for Honors and Chancellor's Service Awards will be available at the beginning of June 2014. They must be purchased in person at Graduation Etc.
Will there be a rehearsal for the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Commencement Celebration?
No rehearsal will be held. Therefore, it is extremely important that you arrive no later than 8:00 a.m. on that day so that you can check in, complete your reply (name) card, and be directed to line up in the proper area.
Will provisions be made for my physical disabilities or those of my guests?
If either you or one of your family members or guests has a disability or needs special assistance to attend Commencement, please call the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) at (310) 825-1401 (voice), or (310) 206-6083 (TDD), as soon as possible to receive information about parking and other assistance at the Commencement.
