Dynamics of tropical forest evolution

Various tools are used to understand the history and model the future of tropical forests. I present my ideas on using systematic biology on model taxa, such as the palms, to unravel tropical forest dynamics. My seminar will be broken into three parts, and through different tools and using model taxa, I describe the depth of my research with respect to the question how dispersal has driven the distribution and composition of extant tropical forests, the breadth of my publications concerning diversification dynamics and their congruence between fossil and extant organisms, and my future work, which will be focused on the Pleistocene history of the Amazon basin and how modeling tropical forest dynamics can lead to robust estimates of their future.
