Several of our Biology Majors Featured at UCLA Commencement

Andrew Ho, a 4th year from Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in Biology. He provided the 2pm college commencement speech. During his academic career, Andrew has been involved on campus as President of the Pediatric AIDS Coalition, the planning body of UCLA's annual Dance Marathon, along with being a campus tour guide. Andrew has centered his college experience around working with children -- in his free time, he volunteered in the Pediatrics, Neonatal, and Labor & Delivery departments of UCLA hospitals, and is a children's camp counselor at Camp Kesem and Camp Kindle. Upon graduating, Andrew hopes to continue working in the nonprofit industry, for a foundation focusing on improving children's health outcomes.

More about Andrew Ho can be found in the UCLA Newsroom.

Two of the three students who provided the singing for the 2pm college commencement of our alma mater were also Biology Majors. Arianne Young, Samantha Hagemeyer, and Marilyn McGowan were all members of a cappella groups while at UCLA. Sam, from Irvine, was the director of Signature A Cappella and Arianne, from Oakland, was a member of the group. Marilyn, from Chico, CA, was in Random Voices. Marilyn and Arianne will graduate with their BS in Biology and Sam a BA in Psychology with a Minor in Classics. Ari plans on pursuing veterinary school and will be taking a year off to apply and prepare. Marilyn will also be taking a year off to apply to medical school. Sam will be working as an orientation counselor this summer. While not singing or studying, Ari was an RA, Sam was a peer-learning facilitator, and Marilyn spent her summers teaching in Tanzania.Ari, Sam, and Marilyn were all members of a cappella groups while at UCLA.
