HARLAN LEWIS, DISTINGUISHED EMERITUS PROFESSOR AND FORMER DEAN PASSES

Professor Emeritus Harlan Lewis, one of the truly outstanding evolutionary biologists of his generation and former Dean of Life Sciences at UCLA, died at home on 12 December, a month short of his 90th birthday. From his home in Pacific Palisades, he never stopped his research on plant systematics, and remained active in horticultural circles right up to his unexpected passing. The campus has lost another eminent scientist.
