I’m looking to hire postdoctoral researchers!
The successful candidate(s) will have substantial input in the specific nature of this research project. However, the project should broadly fit within the lab’s goals of learning about demographic history from genetic variation data, understanding natural selection and deleterious mutations, or applying population genetic concepts to the analysis of complex traits. Opportunities are available to analyze cutting edge next-generation sequencing data from a variety of organisms.
The position is available for 1 year and may be continued for an additional year contingent on successful progress and available funding. Salary will be competitive. Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. (2015 onwards) in biology, genetics, computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, computational biology, or a related field. Knowledge of theoretical population genetics (e.g. coalescent theory, diffusion theory, or forward simulations) is required. As this is a computational position, proficiency in programming in R, Perl, or Python, and shell scripting is essential. Programming experience in C/C++ is highly desired. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong publication record, evidence of substantial research productivity, and ability to successfully communicate scientific information.

I am a member of three graduate programs at UCLA:
Ecology and Evolutionary Biology program: This program is focused on ecology and evolutionary processes. Students chose a research group as they are admitted into the program.
UCLA Bioinformatics program: This program is focused on computational methods used in biological sciences, including population genetics. Students complete several rotations prior to selecting a permanent group to join.
Genetics & Genomics: This is a new graduate program at UCLA. As the name implies, it is focused on Genetics and Genomics, including population genetics. Students complete several rotations prior to selecting a permanent group to join.
Students are highly encouraged to apply for both internal and external funding (e.g. NSF Graduate Research Fellowship).

Experience with running programs from the command line, shell scripting, using a cluster, writing programs/scripts in C/C++, Perl, or Python to parse large files, and using R. Some background on genetic variation is required. Interest in population genetics a major plus.
