Eleventh Annual Biology Research Symposium

The Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department would like to give you the chance to show off the research you have been working so hard on!

Ecology and Evolutionary Biology is once again sponsoring our Eleventh Annual Biology Research Symposium to be held in the California Room of the Faculty Center on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. As many of you know from previous years, the symposium provides an excellent opportunity for faculty, graduate students, and a select group of undergraduates to present their work and informally discuss the research that is taking place within the Department.

Research presentations will consist of poster displays and we are requesting that the sponsoring faculty, students, and/or post docs be on hand to answer questions and share information about their research. As a presenter, you will help to serve as an inspiration to undergraduate attendees who are interested in biological research. The symposium will also give you a valuable chance to share your research with other members of our department and to sharpen your presentation skills.

We will be awarding prizes for the "Most Outstanding Graduate Student Poster." Recipients will receive their award toward travel to their next conference or developing their research. We will also be recognizing one lab group for the quality of their posters, in which the group will receive $50 toward hosting a lab meeting or purchasing lab supplies.

Attached you will find the event announcement, a 2008 participation form, and a handout with poster guidelines. We request that this form be returned to us no later than Friday, May 9th at 4:00pm. Forms can be emailed to markg@lifesci.ucla.edu or returned to the Undergraduate Office in LS 2325.

The attached handout concerns poster guidelines, suggestions, and judging criteria. It is also available in the Undergraduate Office in LS 2325. Please advise your undergraduates who are interested in participating in the symposium to pick up this informational handout (or print one out for them!).

Please meet with Benny Gee in the Illustration Office (Life Sciences 2335) as soon as possible to determine a time when you can print your poster. Benny has set aside times on May 15, 16, 19, and 20 for our event.

Please save this date and encourage undergraduates in your lab to present a poster as well. We will have a prize for them too! This is a great chance to add experience to your CV.
