INTERESTED IN GAINING HANDS ON HOSPITAL VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE?
INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING AT THE RONALD REAGAN UCLA MEDICAL CENTER (RRMC)?
Get Involved in M.A.P.S. (Measuring to Achieve Patient Safety), a volunteer program that facilitates to improve patient safety by observing clinical processes at the RRMC and provide highly reliable feedback to the leadership and management of UCLA healthcare.
START VOLUNTEERING THIS WINTER QUARTER!
Our volunteer program is very unique and distinct from other programs, allowing volunteers to explore almost all floors, areas, professions in the RRMC as well as shadow all types of staff members.
We are the only program that has a medical doctor/resident shadowing aspect where our volunteers are able to go on rounds with RRMC staff to conduct patient safety observations.

As a volunteer you will be able to:
*Conduct observations designed to improve patient safety
*Observe clinical practices in all inpatient care areas including Pediatrics, ICU\'s, Emergency Department
*Produce quality data that will be used by RRMC administrators, clinicians, and staff members to further improve safety performance and to prepare for Joint Commission reviews
*Observe various medical procedures throughout the different floors
*Increase our Patient Safety such as preventing the spread of infectious diseases
Our volunteers gain many benefits such as:
*Opportunity to shadow a variety of RRMC staff (including residents, nurses, care partners, medical doctors, physical therapists, respiratory technicians, and phlebotomists)
*Opportunity to access the various areas of the hospital including ICU\'s, PACU, Emergency Department
*Very flexible hours (including weekends, weekdays, RRMC is active 24/7) for your assignments
*Ability to first-hand experience the major professions in a hospital setting (get a feel for a little bit of everything)

The event will take place in CHS 13-105 from 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

The Mathematics Department will be giving ONE math diagnostic exam on Monday, January 4, 2010.
Please note that Math 1 will still not be offered in the Winter or Spring quarter, and Math 3A and Math 31A will still not be offered in the Spring quarter.
If a student is unable obtain an acceptable score on this exam on 1/4/2010, then other options will have to be worked out with their respective department and/or college counselors.

For freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are beginning research. Students are required to enroll in a 99 or 199 during Winter and Spring 2010 and HC101A during Winter 2010. Minimum GPA: 2.5. Award: 0 - 00 depending on financial need, split equally between Winter and Spring. 25-30 awards. The application is submitted online through my.ucla’s Survey Function. Funding for Summer 2010
The Amgen Scholars Program is a national summer program for students committed to pursuing a Ph.D. in science or engineering. UCLA will host 13 students from UCLA and 13 students from other institutions in 2010. Minimum GPA: 3.2. Students interested summer research in any area of biomedical science, chemistry, bioengineering or chemical engineering are encouraged to apply. Funded by the NIH’s Initiative to Maximize Student Diversity, the CARE SEM Summer program provides a 00 stipend for a 10 week of summer research experience for UCLA students. For more information about eligibility and program components visit:
