Commencement
Graduation Eligibility
To participate in the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Commencement Celebration on Sunday, June 14, 2009, your major must be one of the following: Biology; Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution; or Marine Biology, or you must be a minor in Conservation Biology. You are eligible to participate in the Commencement Celebration IF:
- You graduated in Fall 2008 and Winter 2009 you have automatic eligibility.
- If you have completed 148 units by the end of Winter Quarter 2009 AND have declared candidacy for Spring 2009 (the deadline to declare without penalty is Friday, April 10, 2009) or for Summer 2009 (the deadline to declare is Friday, April 24, 2009). At this point, you may have to go in person to the Office of the Registrar (1113 Murphy Hall) to declare your candidacy if you are unable to do this through URSA.
To confirm your completed units to date, access URSA online. If you are in either situation (1) or (2), you will have automatic eligibility to order guest tickets through MyUCLA.
As verification of your eligibility, you will receive a message in the "My Notifications" section of your MyUCLA web page after April 28 that will indicate how your name will appear in the Commencement program. If you do not receive this message, contact LSEvents@support.ucla.edu or go to the College Commencement Office, 1312 Murphy Hall.
NOTE: You will NOT receive any messages about your graduation eligibility if you who have a privacy restriction for your URSA information and your name will NOT be printed in the Commencement program. April 24 is the deadline to change your public Information Release through URSA. Changes are made in the "Privacy Options" section.
If you plan to complete your degree requirements in Fall Quarter 2009, you are not automatically eligible to participate in or receive guest tickets for the 2009 Commencement events, including departmental graduations.
Students with an official degree expected term of Fall 2009 and who have at least 148 units completed as of the end of Winter 2009 may submit a Special Inclusion Petition (SIP) to participate in the 2009 Commencement events if they will be unable to participate in the 2010 Commencement events. To submit an SIP, qualified students must follow the following procedures:
- Login to URSA in order to verify and/or declare that your Degree Expected Term is Fall 2009. Only once your candidacy is confirmed by the Registrar's Office will you be eligible to submit a Special Inclusion Petition.
- After April 10, 2009, login to MyUCLA and select "Commencement" from the MyUCLA Features menu (only eligible students will receive this menu option).
- Follow the SIP instructions as prompted and wait for the petition to be reviewed. The deadline to submit SIP forms is Friday, May 8, 2009, at 4:30 p.m. to be listed in the Commencement program.
Please note that the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Undergraduate Office does NOT review your SIP; the College reviews the SIP.
