AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

Nikolay P. Nezlin is scientist who specializes in the analysis of satellite data. He received his M. A. degree in Zoology from the Moscow State University in 1977, and his Ph.D. degree in Biological Oceanography in 1983 from the P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology in Moscow, Russia. From 1979 to 2000 Dr. Nezlin worked at P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of Russian Academy of Sciences, from 2000 till 2002 at the Institute of the Environment of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), teaching students “The Basics of Satellite Oceanography”. He is a specialist in oceanography, statistical processing of biological and oceanographic data, mathematical modeling, computer programming, processing and analysis of remote-sensed data (MODIS, SeaWiFS, CZCS, AVHRR, TOPEX/POSEIDON, etc.). During 1976-1995 he took part in 15 marine expeditions of duration from 1 to 4 months in the Atlantic, Indian, Pacific, Southern, and Arctic oceans. His present research efforts focus on seasonal and interannual variations of remotely sensed ecosystem dynamics in the coastal zone off California.
