INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE VOLUNTEERS
Were always interested in chatting with prospective volunteers. There
are currently no paid positions offered in our lab. However,
please read this before contacting us about unpaid volunteer positions. There
are several sorts of projects you could potentially become involved in.
PROJECTS BASED AT UCLA
In the fall and winter quarters we're always looking for help scoring blood smears, identifying parasites from fecal samples, and extracting hormones. Other projects involve studying fish personalities, quantifying individuality in alarm calls, and studying habitat acoustics. While I'm eager to recruit SRP students, I'm pleased to help develop 199 projects and possible honors projects.
Other Honors Projects
I am always interested in talking with outstanding students about other projects
that our lab can support dealing with general social behavior, communication,
anti-predator behavior, and conservation-behavior.
SUMMER PROJECTS
BASED AT
THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN BIOLOGICAL LABORATORY
GOTHIC, COLORADO
I am looking for volunteer research assistants to help with my on-going studies
of yellow-bellied marmot behavior and ecology. You need not be a UCLA student
to contact me about this work.
I am particularly interested in people who could make themselves available in
late April/early May and work though August. We work virtually every dayboth
in the early morning and the late afternoon/early evening (mid-days are typically
off). Work will include trapping, marking and observing the behavior of marmots
living in a spectacular sub-alpine setting. We are often not able to pay much,
but are willing to help develop honors projects and independent studies. Learn
more about RMBL by visiting their website.
Note: if youre not interested in working on the marmot project, many other
researchers are looking for assistants, and there is an NSF-funded REU program
at RMBL. Visit the RMBL website to learn more.
